Choosing the Right Hair Style for Your Face Shape

Most people simply find a hairstyle that they like and go get their hair cut. Then they find out that a hairstyle that they loved on someone else just doesn’t look right on them. Part of the reason is because you have a different type, but what you might not even think about is that you have a different face shape as well.

Some hairstyles are just better suited for certain shapes of faces and there are seven different shapes. Before choosing a hairstyle you need to figure out if you have an oval, round, square, heart, diamond, oblong or triangular shaped face! While there are exceptions to the hairstyles suitable for different face shapes, there are guidelines to give you an idea to start with.

If you have an oval shaped face you can wear almost any hairstyle. But, experts do suggest that you stay away from full bangs and try to keep your hair out of your face. Other than that you can go for straight, curly, wavy and any length from short to super long.

People with round faces should avoid curls or fringed edges. Getting a chin length or short cut will add a little lift to the look of your face. Avoid straight bangs, curl them if you have to and wear them over to one side for the best look.

A nice layered hairstyle will greatly reduce the rigid jawline of a square face. For definition go for a wavy or curly style and opt for a shoulder length cut. Try parting your hair on the side instead of in the center and sweep it to the side to create a angle balance.

A diamond shaped face is one that is wider at the cheeks, and both the jawline and narrow forehead are about the same width. You can create the look of a oval shape by choosing a cut that will add width to the top of your head and avoid having hair that lays around your face.

A bob that is at chin length is perfect for a heart shaped face. It will give you balance by adding fullness toward the chin where you need it. But, any hairstyle that adds shape to the bottom of your face will usually look great.

Long chins and a high forehead signal an oblong shape. You need a cut that will add both volume and width to the side of your face. Don’t wear your hair down in your face, pulling it back at a level with your ears can create

the balance of wideness you need for the forehead.

Disguising a wide chin is the goal for a triangular shaped face. Short hairstyles work best to create a wider

look to the forehead. And, parting your hair off to the side slightly will also add more balance to the shape of

your face.

Techniques for Different Types of Hair Care

There are as many different types of hair as there is types of skin. Your hair will either be normal, dry, oily, fine or damaged. Like your skin your hair can also fit into the combination category with oily scalp and dry ends.

Hair care and styling products come in varieties for all types of hair and when possible, choose the ones that are for your specific hair. However, there are some things that you can do to make your hair look healthier and be more managable.

Few people are lucky enough to have normal hair and if you do, your’re blessed. A weekly warm oil massage will do wonders for normal hair. And, for deep conditioning mix two egg yolks with warm water, cover hair with a vinyl shower cap and leave it on for about ten minutes.

Taking care of oily hair requires a little more work. Wash it daily and use clarifying products to help in removing the excess oil from your hair. Try to not brush your hair to frequently, it will actually stimulate oil production.

When you shampoo, rinse your hair with lukewarm or cool water instead of hot water. If you’re hair is extra oily, occasionally use one cup of vinegar with four cups of water or diluted lemon juice as a rinse. If you don’t really need a conditioner don’t use one, many will just make your hair oily.

The care for combination hair is similar to that for oily hair. But, the dry ends of your hair need extra attention. Don’t apply shampoo directly to the tips, use lather from the top of your hair. Instead of using conditioner all over your hair, just apply it to the ends.

When you feel the need for a deep conditioning treatment for your ends, use a warm oil treatment. Apply the warm oil to the ends and wrap it in a towel for a couple of hours before washing. You can also use warmed olive oil and it won’t have any added ingredients.

If your hair is fine, go with any type of hair care product that says volumizing! Volumizing products coat your hair and make it appear fuller and thicker. And, if you have a lot of problems with static, lightly spray your brush with hair spray!

Dry and damaged hair basically needs the same care, lot’s of conditioning treatments! Use gentle products to avoid drying your hair out even more and try a leave in conditioner to make your hair more manageable. Warm olive oil treatments are a great natural option.

Either your hair is naturally dry, dry from abuse or is damaged from chemicals such as coloring and perms. It’s just a fact, if your hair is severely damaged no amount of deep conditioning is going to bring it back to life. Maybe it’s time to try that new short hair style you’ve been admiring!
